Personality:
Royce Bracket is a man who is caught between a dream of a world where everything will be perfect and never change, and the cold reality of a world where, when everything changes, nothing changes. Caught between an impossible dream and a world that is impossible to change, it is easy to see why Royce is the way he is. In way, you could say he's a paradox, even right down to his appearance and the way he talks. He seems like a young, serious, generically attractive man at first glance, but the minute he opens his mouth, that goes out the window. His voice is frail and almost elderly, and he speaks in a very slow, stilted cadence: often pausing randomly to find words, repeating himself several times for no clear reason, or trailing off into low mumbling in the middle of a sentence. His voice reveals himself for who he really is - a brilliant mind who can't find the words to express himself adequately and would rather ramble in to himself in order to express what he is thinking. He is a man who has been obsessed with numbers and figures his whole life, and it shows in the way he interacts with people. He finds logic and reason far more interesting than any form of human emotion he sees in others, and can come off as awkward or detached in conversation.
Royce is machine-like, it's true. He solves problems with a methodical approach, dissecting them as calmly as a surgeon working on a patient. He seems to be almost callous in this manner - even when experiencing tragedy that was helped along by his hand, he seemingly doesn't show any remorse. However, Royce Bracket, no matter how much he tries to be otherwise, is not a machine. He has emotions. He feels regret. He may not show it well, but he genuinely cares about the people close to him, and, especially, he cares about his city. He understands his problems, and does not waste time in being upset - he only moves forward, trying to solve them as best as he can. If anything gets in his way, then they will have to go. Be eliminated. It's never personal, but Royce will not take kindly to anyone just meddling with his plans. After all, he has the best of intentions in mind - why should he just stand and watch as his plans are ruined?
Royce is not a villain. He's merely a well-intentioned extremist, someone who is determined to reach his heartfelt goals by any means necessary. Even if he's asked, he will not lie about what he wants and how he wants to get it. He is surprisingly open and honest - he doesn't see the need to manipulate people through words. If you judge him for what he does, he takes it in stride. You could call him a coldhearted jerk or a mechanical man, but Royce will only shrug in reply. He doesn't care about how others see him. All that matters to him is whether he is in control of the situation or not. He regretted what happened in his home in Cloudbank because it got out of hand. The fact that he and his group essentially murdered people in the name of their creed? He never apologizes for that. After the catastrophe that strikes Cloudbank, he even says that the Camerata never "wanted it to be like this" and seems to be upset over the deaths of his friends, but he's not sorry for the intent behind what made it all happen in the first place. While the others in the group are consumed by their regrets, he stands passively, calculating, never backing down from his position or his beliefs.
Being the brilliant man that he is, Royce, above all, loves the search for knowledge. He gets excited at the prospect to figure out new problems, which shows in his enthusiastic notes about the Process he discovered back home. Royce always goes where his curiousity and genuine interest in new things leads him- he will never be satisfied with just sitting back and letting things happen. If there's a chance to discover, to improve, he will take it. His passions for his work are great, and he will gladly throw himself into any conundrum that comes his way. He may not be the person to go to when it comes to socializing, and him becoming an extroverted and warm soul is rather out of the question, but he can help others using what he has: his mind. As long as his knowledge does not fail him, then he will stride forward to take on any problem that he might face.
