It sounds as though there are no deserts in your world...
[Which, to be fair... might actually be the case. Even if it's incredibly hard to believe that there aren't myriad environments like that in every world.]
You didn't? [Oh dear, she made another assumption. And Royce seems rather embarrassed about the mistake. Rosa offers a reassuring smile. It's so radiant, it's like the sun breaking through cloud cover. Hopefully, the shade won't flinch from it.] Even so, to modify something like this, without being the one who engineered it... that's quite a feat of genius, I think!
[Oh, if only Royce new how often Cid would blather on about reverse engineering established technology and how much of a pain in the arse it could be to get things to work!]
Not at all. Only one city. And a suburb, of sorts. No deserts to speak of.
[The shade doesn't flinch from it, but he looks faintly surprised by it either way. He's always been an outcast of sorts, even at home, so people acting genuinely nice to him is not something he's used to.]
Well, well, I...I won't be modest and say that it isn't brilliant. But I have a lot to do, a long path to go forward...it isn't perfect. Not yet.
Only one city? In the entire world? [Like the Lunar Palace on the Moon? Maybe his world was in decline, too?]
It's quite brilliant, for something created by humans! Nothing like Lunarian technology, but it's a start, right? And I'm certain you'll be able to make even more advances in the future.
[Gently, she closes the lid on the device.] I do wonder, though, what is the purpose of providing the new arrivals with these devices? Why provide us with a means of communication if the natives so fear us? Would they not worry about us plotting against them, or something like that? [Not that Rosa herself puts any stock in such a notion.]
[One can see why Royce would be flabbergasted to hear of places with multiple cities, hundreds of them, even.]
Oh, Lunarian? I...well, yes. I'll do my best.
[He steps away from her slightly to give her back her personal space once she closes the lid.]
Well, they...do plot against us, very few do, but...mostly, they are afraid. They have the right idea. They stay away because they want to survive. The laboratories are...most of us are monsters. Some are humans who want to understand our plight. Perhaps they think it is some kind of sickness, some kind of disease...
It sounds... lonely. I mean, certainly there are other people living in that city, but to know that you are the last remnants of the human race...
[It really is like the Lunarians, isn't it? And Rosa is equally flabbergasted that there is a world with only a single bastion of civilization.]
Sorry... The Lunarians are an advanced race of people which live on my world's Moon. They gifted humanity with advances in medicine, technology, and magic. But... they are a race in decline. I've visited what remains of their civilization. And I couldn't help but draw comparisons with your home...
[She picks up the device and holds it against her breast. She smiles, a little shyly, perhaps. She's making assumptions again, but hopefully they aren't all completely off-base.]
It doesn't strike me as a disease, really. To be perfectly honest, it feels as though we are being transformed into lesser Eidolons, to become the war-beasts of these squabbling deities and forced to fight in their petty war...
...Most of us, we didn't know. That we were the only ones. Most people, they...didn't understand until it was too late.
[He lets that statement hang ominously in the air.]
They lived on the moon? That's...interesting. Could never have imagined that, but...well, I didn't imagine a lot of things, I suppose. Before I came to this place.
[That last part gets her a confused little cock from the head from him.]
[Was that how it was with the Lunarians? Fusoya never really explained what happened to their original world that forced them to wander the galaxy in search of a new home.]
[She nods, smiling.] I never would have imagined it myself! Had I not seen it with my own eyes, I never would have guessed that one of our moons was capable of supporting life.
[And there she goes again, mentioning things from her world so casually, forgetting that, aside from Machina's world, that people aren't familiar with magic and Crystals and Eidolons.]
They are... like guardian spirits, I suppose. Supernatural entities possessing great power, and who can be summoned by those that form a pact with them. A summoner may call upon their aid in battle at any time, so long as the Eidolon being called has made a pact with them. But if the Eidolon is killed... the summoner forfeits their own life. [Rosa averts her gaze, thinking once more of poor Rydia and her mother.]
no subject
[He sounds kind of awed. It's almost like hearing something from a fairytale. Wings grind down stones.]
Ah, well, I-I didn't create it. Already here when I arrived, just made...improvements! [He almost looks a little bashful.] It's just...my job.
